Y.U.N.G. Harlem is a non-profit organization that aims to lead by example, by providing positive leadership for the youth of New York City. Our mission is to restore community integrity among the youth of the communities in which we serve. Y.U.N.G. Harlem understands the struggles of the youth and our peers, and work using leveled communication as a way for them to exceed their dreams of social, financial and academic success.

Y.U.N.G. Harlem looks to the former Harlem Renaissance as a model for reigniting the lights of that era. From the Arts to Political Engagement; we have the duty and power to remind the world of Harlem’s legacy of excellence.

Our Beginning

Y.U.N.G. Harlem began in the Summer 2008, after a series of deadly shootings that took the lives of several teenagers, in Harlem, NY. The organization was immediately founded by then college freshmen Tiffany Bender and Alize Beal, who knew they wanted to see a change in their community. They not only feared for their lives, but also the lives of their younger brothers and sisters. Thus the campaign to end gun violence was born. After teaming up with Harlem Mothers S.A.V.E. the organization was able to spread its message of youth safety around the city.

“Why can’t they see they are destroying the spirit of our community? There is certainly a dire need for YH” -Harlem Mother’s S.A.V.E. Rep

Y.U.N.G. Harlem has expanded into an organization with more than just a campaign to end gun violence; today YH is looking to revive the Harlem Renaissance by restoring the very 6 pillars the original stood on decades ago.
